YFC visit!

On Wednesday 2nd September, our Young Farming Champion, Jessica Kirkpatrick, came to visit our school. It was a great morning as we learnt all things grain and learnt a little bit about farming life. You could say, she was born into it, as she grew up on her family farm which has been in her family for 150 years!

She told us about how farming has changed throughout the years, especially making farmers lives easier with the help of technology. Jessica showed us lots of different apps that they use and how GPS is used with their machinery.

Jess also told us how she is still at uni and is going to be an agronomist when she finishes. It's not quite a farmer but she works closely with them to make sure they get the best possible results for their crops. She looks at the science side of farming and helps farmers reduce risk of pests, weeds and ensure quality within their crops. Pretty interesting.

We also looked at the various grains available to us and how they are used in the real world. The world would be a boring place without grains. They're so versatile!

It was great having her at school and really appreciate her coming all the way from Victoria just to visit us and tell us about her experience.

Thank you Jess!
